A few sand beaches and abundant canoeing equipment are available for water activities. (6/3/24) what a beautiful springtime day for mountain biking and off-roading! The trail section of Maine Huts & Trails north of the Flagstaff Hut is overgrown with waist-high plants covering the trails in addition to frequent muddy terrain. It was a fun slog through it. Went off-roading on North Flagstaff and Big Eddy Roads. My first time exploring all of this. Definitely has a backcountry feel to it. The views are gorgeous. I love the beautiful sky reflections off the ponds and lakes. There was only a 1 mile stretch that was sketchy driving through; definitely needed my high clearance truck to slowly crawl over deep ruts and boulders. Otherwise these dirt roads are in great shape. TONS of bear, moose, and deer tracks out here today!

Beautiful Lodge and area. As others have said the hut is really a lodge. There are two separate bunkhouses behind the lodge. Staff is really friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. The lodge and bunkhouses are very clean and neat, you can’t wear your outdoor footwear in the lodge which helps with this. The showers in the lodge have plenty of hot water. There are a couple of nice sand beaches near the hut. There are plenty of canoes and related equipment. The shore trail has many beautiful views of the lake and Bigelow Mountains. The only negatives are the sleeping pads lack support, I would recommend bring your own sleeping pad to add on top of the provided pads. And for some odd reason the bunkroom lights were mounted behind the entry door in some rooms, so have your headlamp ready. But other than these minor issues I highly recommend a visit to this hut.

I wasn't at the hut, but camped in the general area. It's always a peaceful time.

Sadly, all these huts are in deep financial trouble. Huts are open, but there is no kitchen staff. So, stay the night, but bring your own food. The trails and view remain top notch.

A group 15 of us rented the hut for an amazing summer weekend. The hut is comfortable and beautifully remote. The kitchen and dining areas make group meals very memorable. Endless swimming & paddling, stargazing at night and trails to stroll around. And finally the staff were friendly, a great resource/help, and very fun.

Less like a hut, more like a lodge. 2nd time visiting- food is amazing, staff are super friendly, and everything about it supports the local economy. Scenery is beautiful. Highly recommended for the athletic adventure-minded traveller.
